Rebuilding when you should replace. If the alternator regulator is dead or the housing is damaged, stop. The balance has shifted.

Ignoring the cheap stuff. Corroded battery terminals that kill a $300 starter. A $20 spark plug that would have prevented a tow truck. The simple tests are never glamorous. They're just practical.

Chasing the lowest price in a panic. Look, I understand the instinct. But when a car is on the lift and a customer is staring, the $20 saved on a non-genuine part is nothing against doing the job twice.
